Situated in Kolar, Karnataka, this facility will produce the Airbus H125, the world’s best-selling single-engine helicopter. Slated to commence operations in 2026, this venture marks a significant stride towards achieving self-reliance in the aviation industry and bolstering the 'Make in India' initiative. Once this facility is in place ,India would be 4th country ,after France ,US and brazil in list of H125 Private helicopter manufacturing countries.

This partnership not only enhances India's aerospace manufacturing capabilities but also strengthens the strategic relationship between India and France. The collaboration underscores the growing defense and technological cooperation between the two nations, paving the way for future joint ventures in the aerospace sector.

The Kolar FAL is expected to produce ten H125 helicopters annually, with plans to scale up production based on regional demand forecasts estimating over 500 units required across the Asia-Pacific region over the next 20 years. This expansion will not only cater to domestic needs but also position India as a key player in the global helicopter market.

Strategic Location For Tata & Airbus Helicopter Manufacturing : Kolar, Karnataka

After evaluating various states, the Tata-Airbus consortium selected Kolar in Karnataka for the FAL. The region's robust aerospace ecosystem, skilled workforce, and favorable industrial policies were pivotal in this decision. The facility will occupy 740,000 square feet in the Vemagal Industrial Area, encompassing manufacturing, assembly, and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations. This strategic location is poised to serve both domestic and international markets, enhancing India's position in the global aerospace supply chain.

The H125, part of Airbus’s Ecureuil family, has accumulated over 38 million flight hours worldwide. Renowned for its versatility, it can be easily reconfigured for various missions, including:

Aerial Work: Power line inspections, forestry, and construction support.

Emergency Medical Services (HEMS): Rapid patient transport in critical conditions.

Disaster Management: Search and rescue operations during natural calamities.

Law Enforcement: Surveillance and patrol missions.

Tourism: Scenic flights and remote area access.

Notably, the H125 is the only helicopter to have landed on Mount Everest, demonstrating its capability to operate in extreme environments.

Enhancing Indigenous Manufacturing Capabilities

This collaboration signifies a pivotal move towards indigenizing helicopter manufacturing in India. The “FAL” will undertake the integration of major component assemblies, avionics, mission systems, installation of electrical harnesses, hydraulic circuits, flight controls, dynamic components, fuel system, and the engine. Additionally, it will conduct testing, qualification, and delivery of the H125 to customers in India and the region .

The establishment of TATA's Helicopter facility is expected to:

Create Employment Opportunities: Generating skilled jobs in aerospace engineering, assembly, and MRO services.

Develop Local Supply Chains: Encouraging the growth of ancillary industries and suppliers.

Enhance Technological Expertise: Facilitating knowledge transfer and capacity building within the domestic workforce.
